Dubai Safari Park History
Before Dubai Safari Park came into existence, many of the animals kept in this park were kept in the Dubai Zoo that was originally built in 1967. The Dubai Zoo was a major attraction in Dubai for a long time and had only a few animals like big cats, hoofed-animals and monkeys. Dubai Zoo also became the first Arabian zoo to breed Arabian Wildcat and the rare chimpanzees.
In the past few years, Dubai Zoo received a lot of criticism on the living conditions and treatment of the animals. After animal rights activists, tourist websites and even hotels encouraged boycotting the zoo, Dubai Municipality took the decision of moderating the zoo to increase space before tourism began to increase in Dubai. The project was overlooked by the UAE Conglomerate Meraas and Dubai Safari Park was then opened on 12th Dec 2017.
